The Big Bang Theory is one of my favorite shows. This character, Sheldon Cooper, is usually the serious, intellectual guy that has trouble "letting loose". This is a speech he had to make among colleagues for an award that he was receiving in science.
Ethos - Sheldon is a well-known scientist that has made many significant advances in his field of study as an theoretical physicist. His audience is gathered specifically because he is receiving an award, so they will be naturally inclined to listen to him to a degree. He also addresses the audience in a personal manner throughout his speech. He maintains good eye contact, scanning his audience throughout his speech. He has poor posture sometimes, but it isn't noticeable because he seems to have control of the stage. He is confident, so there are no awkward pauses and his hand gestures seem pretty normal. His speech is also relatively relatable to his audience because of their prior knowledge of science.
Pathos - Sheldon appeals to the emotions of his audience through humor, confusion and his tone of voice.
Logos - Sheldon appeals to logic by his "demonstration" of the 4th-demension. He also uses many scientific references and tells jokes relating to his topic.
Even though Ethos, Pathos and Logos are present in his speech, Sheldon did not present a good speech. His audience was too busy thinking, "What the hell?" to laugh at his jokes or appreciate the science references. This is because all of the prior "ethos" or credibility that he had established, was discarded due to the fact that he was drunk. Overall, he made a fool of himself. If there's anything redeeming about this joke of a speech, it's not one that will be easily forgotten.
